NEC AccessTechnica's IPv6 initiatives

June 12, 2012(Updated)

IPv6

NEC AccessTechnica will be participating in World IPv6 Launch as a home router vendor.

NEC AccessTechnica performs an interoperability test (IOT) at the University of New Hampshire's InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), becoming eligible to participate in the Home Router Vendor category of World IPv6 Launch

There are only five vendors in the world participating in this category (including two from Japan). Click here for details.

NEC AccessTechnica's home gateway devices

We develop and manufacture the Aterm® series wireless LAN broadband router, as well as the home gateway for network operators. The home gateway for network operators supports IPv6, functions such as DS-Lite and 464XLAT to handle IPv4 address exhaustion, and other individually added functions.

Many network operators in Japan are already using NEC AccessTechnica's IPv6-capable home gateway, making us a driving force behind IPv6 services in Japan as one of the country's largest home gateway vendors.

NEC AccessTechnica's IPv6 initiatives

We have been carrying out IPv6 initiatives since around 2001 and are certified to use the IPv6 Ready logo for small ATM routers for corporate customers. Since then, we have accumulated more than 10 years of experience and know-how related to IPv6 by, for example, participating in demonstration IPv6 tests in collaboration with network operators. In recent years, NEC AccessTechnica has implemented activities in cooperation with domestic industries as a member of the IPv6 Promotion Council and Task Force on IPv4 Address Exhaustion. In addition, we are helping to facilitate the adoption and use of IPv6 by actively advancing proposals on IPv6 adoption and issue resolution to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), which formulates Internet-related standards.

Participation in World IPv6 Launch

World IPv6 Launch is a worldwide event initiated by the Internet Society (ISOC) to facilitate worldwide IPv6 adoption. The ISOC is an international non-profit organization whose aim is to resolve issues related to the Internet such as standardization, education, and policy making. World IPv6 Launch aims to promote IPv6 by permanently enabling IPv6 for the services and products of website operators, network operators, and home router vendors from various countries starting June 6, 2012.
NEC AccessTechnica has been carrying out IPv6-related activities including research & development, demonstration tests, and joint studies with other companies since 2001. Moreover, since April 2011, we have been supplying IPv6-capable home gateway devices to KDDI Corporation for their au HIKARI service. We will be participating in World IPv6 Launch as part of the team demonstrating this home gateway device.
